The interesting and world-renowned town of
Tulum, Mexico is located approximately 80 miles from Cancun at the southern
end of the beautiful Mayan Riviera. The word Tulum means “wall”
in Mayan and refers to the tall, thick wall that surrounds the archaeological
site for which the area is famous. This complex of temples and related
buildings is a must see if you plan to visit the Riviera Maya.
Built by the Mayans over 800 years ago, the site sits atop a series of limestone cliffs and is one of the few Mayan ruins in Mexico that has the stunning waters of the Caribbean as its backdrop. Its beautiful setting, interesting buildings, and relatively easy access and open areas make it one of the top archeological destinations in Mexico. The site also offers a beautiful beach, culture activities, guided tours, shopping, restaurants and other services for visitors.
But the ruins are not the only fun things to do or see in Tulum. The town and surrounding area also offer a variety of shopping and dining options. Diving, snorkeling, and other water sports are popular as well as numerous inland adventures including jungle tours, horseback riding, and exploration of nearby villages and beaches. The Sian Kaan Biosphere, a diverse natural preserve, is just a short drive south.
With so much to see and do, you will want
to spend more than just the day in Tulum. Tulum hotels and accommodationst
range from rustic bungalows and Tulum cabanas just steps from the beach to upscale hotels
with all the services and amenities.
Whether you stay for a day, a week, or the rest of your life, Tulum has
much to offer, all in a tropical paradise along the Caribbean ocean.
