Akumal is located just one hour and ten minutes south of Cancun on the Mexican Caribbean coastline of the Yucatan peninsula.

Distance:
Akumal is situated on a beautiful bay about 70 miles south of Cancun airport
Transportation:
You can utilize Public or Private trasnportation to explore the Riviera Maya.
Private transportation are:
Rental Cars and Taxis. You will find a taxi at Cancun Airport and at the main entrance to Akumal (make sure to agree on a price before leaving) who will give you a ride to your destination.
Public Transportation are:
you can take first class or second class buses, which go through all the Riviera Maya . First class buses operate between terminals, which is a very good idea for long journeys since you cut a lot of time off. This service is given with modern buses with toilet, video, air conditioned and assigned seats. Second class buses are smaller than first class or are also vans. These busses pass more or less regulary each hour and stop at every village, town or person along the way, that is why they are slowest than firts class.

Police:
The Police Station is at Nuevo Akumal.
There are security guards at the arch entrance 24 hours a day.
Migration:
There are not any Migration Office at Akumal –You should go to Playa del Carmen or Cancun.
Post office:
The Post Office is located by la cancha (the basketball court).
Medical Service:
There is a Doctor in Plaza Ukana I and there are a pharmacy as well.
Ambulance service 24 Hours per day.
Bank:
The closest bank to Akumal is located in Tulum. Most will issue cash advances on your credit or bank card. Money exchange is available at the TSA office. Dollars are accepted everywhere. There is now an ATM machine in the Super Chomak Grocery.

In Akumal you will find a money exchange in the TSA Travel office behind The Original Akumal Dive Shop. If you would like to cash your travellers checks you must have your passport or any identification . If you are travelling to the south your next exchange money would be in Tulum. Bear in mind that at small towns credit cards are not accepted, so have enough money or travelers checks just to no dependant on credit cards. In Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras you will find your cards accepted almost everywhere, but once you head south cash is necessary.
